Sure it CAN be both AI-ish and SW-ish ... my question was whether people 
really thought that the SW-ish parts would eventually see real-world 
deployment (e.g. by Google) or if the AI-ish parts would continue to do 
most of the heavy lifting.

Another point that Simon's rants about XML and RDF brought to mind is "if 
the AI-ish 'bots are doing the semantic tagging, will they do it with 
straight XML markup or RDF-ish markup?"  Alternatively, will the 'bots 
store the post-processed data in triple stores or XML databases ... or RDF- 
XML in XML databases, or what?
