One of the key promises XML made was easy access to information, with less if not no vendor lock-in. If you take Frank's reading about avoiding the dangerous word "ownership" and simply talk about the difficulties of accessing information you've created with a given tool using a different tool set, there's plenty here to think about, for both vendors and consumers. There are other approaches beside XML you can use, notably POI (Poor Obfuscation Implementation) - http://jakarta.apache.org/poi/. XML's a lot friendlier about letting you pick your own toolkit, of course. -- Simon St.Laurent Ring around the content, a pocket full of brackets Errors, errors, all fall down! http://simonstl.com -- http://monasticxml.org
