Oh yes.  But the pronunciation of "GNU", as in "GNU Manifesto" or "GNU
operating system' or "GNU/Linux", always sounds the G.  (Use of a
click is entirely optional.)

Perhaps it is badge of discipleship? :) A sort of open-source shibboleth?

In British English the "g" is totally unnecessary.

If you Americans nyoo how to say nyoo instead of saying noo as the opposite of old, there would be no need to say gnoo to distinguish noo from nyoo. But you nyoo that, didn't you? :)

If you see what I mean. :)
