RE: xml-dev archives facelift

xml dev archive
Yep, see #4 in Jeff's earlier post [1]

btw, FWIW, I think OASIS should be given every chance to
fix the problems, which they appear to be doing.

I've not had unsub problems myself, although I have seen
ezmlm warnings occasionally.

I *have* spent a great deal of time in the archives however,
and I'm very pleased to see them tidied up. If I had an additional
plea it would be for author based indexes.

My experiences with third party archives haven't been positive.
While the ActiveState archive [2] has some nice features, I've
found them to be extremely slow to navigate, meaning that I've
always preferred the OASIS archives.

If the list does move, I'd like to see someone give some thought
to archive stability -- would the OASIS version remain so those
documents that do summarise XML-DEV discussions don't become
useless?

Setting up an XML-DEV Wiki is a great idea, and something that
has been mentioned on a number of occasions (cf: Mike C's
Wikipedia postings in 2001). Don't see that this requires a list
move though.

Ditto the "council of elders" idea. Although it there was an XML-DEV
Wiki I suspect much permathread traffic would naturally move there
rather than remain on the list.

Cheers,

L.
