One of the privileges of being a gorilla is to be able to choose bangmates at whim and to sleep wherever the savannah is softest and the plants are juicy. There are several families of gorillas sharing the same clearing in the jungle that is the Internet. It probably won't happen, but I view such articles as early signs of emergent behaviors, in this case, attractors pulling different groups toward common codebases whose traceability in production even if expensive to do (the code is free; the trusted code management is not), could raise the reliability of the overall system. Sometimes the best way to get a horsecart over a hill is to put a carrot in front of the horse and at the same time, get behind the cart and push. len From: Paul Prescod [mailto:paul@p...] Bullard, Claude L (Len) wrote: > http://www.cnn.com/2002/TECH/biztech/12/10/meta.linux.reut/index.html > > Microsoft to offer Linux? The latter is not going to happen for the foreseeable future. A new version of Windows based upon FreeBSD? Maybe in several years. Linux? No way. Even Apple wouldn't touch Linux and Microsoft has stronger reasons to avoid it (like they've publically declared that the GPL is a cancer).
