There's considerable need for better display of graphic data.  Something that
gives really versatile control over vector data.  If just for mundane stuff like
zooming in/out/around datasets in charts, perhaps in 3D.  Doing it in bitmaps
just [expletive deleted] for what-if analysis.  Doing it over GET/POST is waaay too slow as
well; which also speaks to the molasses-like performance that makes Java so
unappealing.  So there's definitely potential for something like SVG.  If Flash
outgrows it's tendency to be used for ad banners and gee-gaws with tiny type
it's certainly got potential.  Some of it's roots in old VideoWorks tools will
certainly help it compared to SVG.  There is, of course, the sticky issue of
proprietary code.  I'd love to see serious attention paid to making the SVG
plug-in [expletive deleted] less.
