Re: XML, Rich Internet Apps

Good stuff!  i particularly enjoyed this: "Flash is like a mid-80s Corvette: impressive but environmentally destructive. Oh sure, it gets you the chicks for a while, but ultimately most people sharing the road with you are thinking "what's *he* compensating for?"  Hah!

Anyway, i think it would serve much better if we were to concern ourselves more with the marriage of technologies, as opposed to the conflict(s) of good/bad dichotomies, etc.  For example, in recent times, i have been working on more Flash/XML technological relationships and have come up with (imo) some pretty cool things, i.e. a Flash *search engine* that searches an XML file or database and an XML-driven Flash site, to name a couple things.

i think this line of discussion is constructive though.  Methinks it only serves in helping to push the envelope even further -- and that, in the long run, will serve us all some good.

If anyone's interested in how such issues get looked at by people
contemplating how best to publish in this variety of areas, you may want

(There's one para about patents on JPGs that's cited to me but is
actually a quote from Bruce Epstein.)

I suspect this is tangential to xml-dev, but you may at least enjoy the
grotesque mischaracterizations of XML and Flash at the end.
