I don't disagree but...  

The question is, isn't there a point of diminishing 
returns where it would be more economical to fetch another resource 
that can inform a process over repeating the same self-descriptive 
information in every representation?  I mean, that is how stylesheets 
work best.  The case for completeness in self-description is far 
from made given current practice.  I'd rather trade two gets for 
the maintenance costs (yes, one might not force the get across 
the net but do it by making the resource dispenser do that work).

My position is that to the extent that documents can be 
self-describing, you win.  I certainly don't deny that there's a cost 
in verbosity and that the trade-off is not obvious. -Tim
