OK, but then you have to correlate the element in the instance with the type in the schema, which strikes me as non-trivial in the general case (considering all the the inheritance rules in WXS), although obviously pretty easy in the example given. But the point is well-taken: if one keeps things reasonably simple, you can "roll your own" support for this kind of thing rather than having to wait for Apache or Microsoft to do it.
