Thanks Jack - just ordered it (that Amazon 1-click will bankrupt me!).

If I take the most basic concept of what I want to do it would be
creating more intelligent data that describes my web site.
I can use RSS easily to outline the main concept and what is available,
but to take this to the next level is to relate data concepts from
around the site to I can more intelligently relate the information I
have and what it describes.

I can look at using only RDF for this, but then I could have done that
instead of RSS in the first place. More specific schema such as XTM (and
RDF with DAML and OIL / or OWL) make it a heck of a lot easier to create
and understand what is iin your content.

From this perspective I am trying to see if it likely that these
technologies will be competing, or whether they are complementary (and
what parts).
Many of the papers I have read thus far are from a XTM background and so
it's hard to get a balanced view. Also combine that with the move
towards OWL and the field seems to get busier yet again!

Look forward to reading the book anyway.

The new book _XML Topic Maps_ is a collection of some 17 chapters about 
some aspect of XTM, one of which includes comparison of XTM and RDF. At
the moment, I'm not convinced that one should approach any rhetorical 
question with the concept of RDF vs XTM in mind; rather, it might be
more 
productive to take the opportunity to understand the application in 
sufficient depth that such questions might answer themselves.

Full disclosure: I edited the book with the help of Sam Hunting, and,
since 
I had great authors behind it and a great publisher (Addison-Wesley), I 
think the book will provide much more food for thought as discussions
such 
as this evolve.
