[XML-DEV Mailing List Archive Home] [By Thread] [By Date] [Recent Entries] [Reply To This Message] Request for XPath 2.0 Vision Document
For some 2 years now the only permanent link relating to XPath from the W3C Home Page is direct to the XPath 1.0 Recommendation of November 1999. That remains the case. There is no link to a page describing the general direction for XPath, implementations etc etc. The XPath REC is not the most user friendly document and better information on XPath 1.0 should be provided for visitors to the W3C Web site. The current situation is also misleading to the casual visitor since no mention is made of XPath 2.0 at all from that sole permanent link on the Home Page. I would like to request that this improvement in communication include coverage of the current activity on XPath 2.0. The absence of a link from the W3C Home Page means that many visitors will simply think that XPath is frozen at the November 1999 position. That, of course, is misleading. I suggest that communication be improved by providing a meaningful and up to date link on the current XPath activities, including a clear and concise vision statement of where XPath 2.0 is going. The XML Activity page (http://www.w3.org/XML/Activity) indicates, correctly, that inconsistencies have arisen among the growing number of XML-related specifications. Provision of a coherent XPath 2.0 Vision Document would help provide reassurance that the current plans for XPath 2.0 are not going to add to the existing inconsistencies. Andrew Watt
