One way to understand webservices is to compare it to CORBA,
JAVA-IIOP and DCOM. Maybe it's retrograde compared to web arch, but
I buy the argument put down by Richard Gabriel that people go for
tech that is an incremental improvement of the old tech. The forces
of change as regards web services are coming from middleware and
systems integration, not web development. To the former,
SOAP+WSDL+HTTP is a big win for almost all involved.
