The success of .net will be that it has taken the VB model and applied it to the web. That is why it is productive. The fact that one can program equally in MS Access and IE with pretty much the same language has been marvelously successful. One has to give MS credit for taking the web and pulling it together under a VB model such that its tools retain that ability to interoperate and keep the surface area of the programming task down to manageable proportions....err... 1 degree of separation.
