I once created a list of resources in this general territory (a document with a monstrous title); see http://xml.coverpages.org/classification.html The document is not maintained, and I am not an authority on 'taxonomies' in any respect. You'll probably get some help there, though. I should add references for 'Published Subjects' from the world of Topic Maps.
