Sure, once people start defining XML syntaxes for more advanced technologies (VoiceXML and SVG come to mind) you get somewhat more reasonably debatable patent issues ... I'd guess that the slithering vermin who extort licenses of bogus patents have just heard that this is the Year of XML and are going after XML vendors rather than .coms or telcos or whoever they tried to leech off last year. Dealing with parasites is simply the price one pays for success. I guess it's better than having to deal with vultures, which is the price of failure. <grin>
