While I am not a library scientist, I think the
distinction is like this:

A taxonomy organizes information into categories based
on explicit rules.

A controlled vocabulary is a limited set of terms that
describe a collection of items.

An ontology is a set of terms describing all the items
in a given environment without regard to any
classification or order.

I'd happily be corrected as my knowledge in this area
is evolving, but I think these distinctions are on
target.
