I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the security issues HTML mail has
introduced (web bugs, embedded scripts, macro viruses, malicious applets
etc).  

Remember the early days of the web and turning on/off graphics?  If only it
were so easy for email.  Alas, feature bloat continues to make us targets
for script kiddies.  Nothing beats plain old text-based email for sheer
speed and reliability.
