It may be possible to use the Java Plugin
http://www.javasoft.com/products/plugin/
which is designed to provide an up-to-date Java environment for older
browsers and servers saddled with ancient or non-conforming JVMs.

It's not a Microsoft issue at all. I am constrained to write apps that work
within Netscape 3.6 Servlet Runner plugin, for now at least. I have gotten
servlets to work in this environment but am looking to also be able to
parse and transform XML.

Thanks for all the good comments.
