     Sounds like a job for an integration platform alright. Since you're
getting your XML from partners, you'll need a B2B capable tool. But the
mainframe integration aspect will have to be addressed as well. Fortunately
for you, there are dozens of vendors with products fitting this bill.
Unfortunately (for you), you'll have to select one amongst some very tough
competition.

     I'd suggest you take a look at e-Bizq.net (http://www.ebizq.net) to
get a feel for the market, and then try to focus in on the products that
meet your particular needs. For example, you know you need B2B, Mainframe
Integration and XML support, but you may or may not be interested in
Business Process Management, Transaction Support, Real-Time Analysis, etc.
And then of course there's always price considerations, but you're an
Insurance company so that doesn't matter, right? :-)

Please excuse this question that, strictly speaking, lies outside the "dev"
part of this elist, but does address XML tools.

What tools would you suggest looking into for converting XML fields to
COBOL fields (and back again) in a high-volume, on-line production
environment?  The XML comes from business partners and needs to be
converted to COBOL for mainframe legacy system processing.

So far, IBM's MQ Series Integrator and (because we're an insurance company)
IVANS' Transformation Express have been proposed, but we may be overlooking
other good candidates.  XSLT tools have been described as too slow for our
needs.  True?

Thanks for any pointers you can give (including tips as to where else I
might post the question).
