RE: OS other than Win
The less I have to think about, the less I
have to think.

It should all be easy. It must be easy.
Who has time to keep up with different OSs?
Homogeneity is where it is at now: one
closed world model on a standard platform,
just like television.

Most places I've worked are a mix of of both flavours of Windows, and
flavours of Unix, each chosen based upon it's suitability for the task.

It's the standards that allow the different flavours and OSes to coexist
side by side.

To make casual assumptions with obviously little experience outside a closed
world about the usage of Unix is as silly as to make casual assumptions
about the use of English, and simply brushing aside consideration of
languages such as Spanish.

I can fully understand how from some positions the world might appear to be
nearly completely English speaking, or all running Windows. It is however a
naive viewpoint, and not a good measure of reality.

It's a rich and varied world out there, and I wouldn't be too quick to
blinker yourself.
