[XML-DEV Mailing List Archive Home] [By Thread] [By Date] [Recent Entries] [Reply To This Message] Higher-level protocol encoding info
Hi,
XML 1.0 Second Edition read in section 4.3.3.
"[...] It is also a fatal error if an XML entity contains no encoding
declaration and its content is not legal UTF-8 or UTF-16."
Some people, e.g. Philippe Le Hegaret <plh@w...> argued, that this
passage is an erratum, since the specification states in other passages,
that encoding information may be gathered from some higher level
protocol. I asked at xml-editor@w... for some clarification on this
but I got no reply, neither is there any new item regarding this section
in the current errata.
This renders higher-level protocol informations not only useless, it
conflicts also with RFC 3023.
Is there anything I missed? If not, could anyone with better contacts to
the XML Core WG report this issue to them? I don't want to bug them
personally...
regards,
