Not that I have a strong opinion either way, but metaphors about "adapt" or "evolve" should acknowledge that species adapt and evolve due to external environmental pressures. There is another old saying, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Mutation for mutation's sake isn't really a common bit of advice as far as I can recall. The real question is about whether or not the external environment is harsh enough to justify a mutation to Raspberries or not, right? Not about whether or not mutation is better than stasis in every conceivable case.
