I have an article going on XML.com some time in December (date
undetermined as yet) about using Sun's Open Office's XML output format for
generating structured XML based on document style names. I know thats not
much immediate help to you, but I thought others might be interested in
it. Its also worth pointing out that Open Office is not a stable finished
product just yet.

(this sort of ties back to my talk at XMLDevCon too)
