It may inform the debate to note that OASIS has just finalized their
technical committee processes.  I've written a short piece on it here:

What is interesting to me is the autonomy of the Technical
Committees--once chartered, they are independent.

As to the merits of OASIS, there are several folk on this list who are
actively involved. It'd be good to hear from some of them on their
experiences of working in OASIS TCs.

My personal $.02 (a much devalued tuppence, as I've had no involvement
in SAX's development whatsoever) is that OASIS would be well worth
looking into further.
