Such a schema is only really required if the XLink in set up to embed the called data into the file. If it is an non-embedded link then the stylesheet is could be based on the presence of attributes in the xlink namespace within the document. Such a stylesheet could be "generic" in the sense it would, for example, resolve any xlink:locator object to an A link, given a suitable mechanism for identifying the base that the link applies to for use within the HTML link.
