Joel makes some good points both on how folks view the .NET whitepaper
thru their experiences (kind of reminds me of the elephant and the 5
blind men story) and the over architecting of things.

With regards to the .NET whitepaper, I am not sure who the targeted
audience is. All the people who have I have shown it to, have trashed
it for different reasons, depending on their domain. It does have some
useful items like universal canvas and multi-modal interfaces (called
Natural User Interface) which is the holy grail of UI folks and using
standards to define web services should help interoperability.
