Er... I guess that's not really what I was looking for ; or I think I've quite misunderstood the notion of 'notation'. How can I use this media-types DTD?
 I don't really see what it is useful for, because I remember that when a browser encounters a notation, he tries to give it to the program indicated by the SYSTEM address associated to the notation, this address can be pointed by an FPI.
So as the URIs associated with the notations in the media-type DTD do not point to a program, what can I do?

 Isn't there a standard and common FPI for XML browsers for basic media-types?
 For example if I have a PNG notation in my XML file, how can I get IE5 or Mozilla to display it?

They're not public IDs, but John Cowan has a terrifically useful resource at:
    http://www.ccil.org/~cowan/XML/media-types.dtd
Basically a collection of NOTATION declarations and associated SYSTEM IDs 
for hundreds of Internet media types.
