Indeed they do - see [1] which summarises the recent discussions on this topic (both here on XML-DEV and XSL-List) and [2] which reports on a statement made by Steve Muench on behalf of the XSL WG. The WG are looking at unifying this kind of support in a future version of the specification. I believe some discussion has already taken place between the developers of XT, Xalan, and SAXON. There's some discussion taken place on the Apache Xalan list of something called (at different times, SAT and TRAX). Cheers, L.
