Perhaps it would be useful to describe how a database or SQL background
influences the terms one uses to describe queries, including queries over
XML.

Structural query
Storing document structure information and using that when querying
documents. Also called tag queries and section searches.

Content query (also content-based or container queries)
In an SQL statement, CONTAINS can be used with images, spatial data, and
text such as XML. For example, find a document that contains 'Enterprise
Java Beans'. Also called content-based or container queries.

Theme-based queries
A document might contain 'Entity Beans' without containing the phrase
'Enterprise Java Beans'. If properly indexed, it will be found when you
search for documents ABOUT 'Enterprise Java Beans'.

Views
A relational or object view that can include XML data from multiple
documents or document fragments.
