| I agree with you that such a task is relatively easy. I think I can even
| say that it is a kind of "infrastructure". That's why I think there
| should be bug-free, handy, and open-source components that can handle
| them.

Have a look at JavaMail [1], if Java is a platform option. Source code is
available, though it's under the Sun Community Source License, which isn't
as "open" as other licenses.
