LISTADMIN: Errors due to full mailboxes

mailbox full
Can I bring to the attention of the list (but by definition, sadly not to the
people who this message is directed to) that an increasing proportion of
the errors on this list are being generated by "mailbox full" errors.

It is normally my policy to remove email addresses that return with
"address unknown" errors, but to leave the generators of mailbox
full errors subscribed, in the hope that they will eventually make room
on their mailbox for the receipt of new messages. On some systems of
course, automatic purges will happen with no user intervention, but
some seem to remain full for weeks, or even months at a time.

However, I am increasingly believing that these full mailboxes may in
fact also be "abandoned" ones. So I think its time to change my policy
on these mailboxes. Please note that from now on, if I detect a
full mailbox, it is liable to be unsubscribed (again by definition without
notice to its owner).

I have also noticed a marked increase in (un)subscription requests
for accounts sent from an email address that differs from the list
value. These all need manual intervention. Currently, this is being
batched up for processing about once a week. You might be unlucky and
have to wait a week for the request to be processed. Can I ask you
to be patient, and not flood me with repeated requests for action.
If the continuing emails really offend you, then it is nowadays a simple
matter to set a filter on most mailers to divert all the messages straight
to the trash, so that you do not even notice them
