In theory any link has two ends and so need not be one-way. However in
the practical representation, a simple link has two ends which look
different and it is often not easy or even possible to traverse the link
in the opposite direction.

XLink uses extended links for multidirectional links. Look at sections
4.3 and 5 of the XLink draft for how this works. I do not know the
current status of XLink activity.
