[XML-DEV Mailing List Archive Home] [By Thread] [By Date] [Recent Entries] [Reply To This Message] Default attributes
I'm new at XML and trying to figure out how to have a default
attribute assigned to an element in the DTD. What I've got now is this:
<!ELEMENT protocolVersion (#PCDATA)>
<!ATTLIST protocolVersion
dataType CDATA "UnsignedByte">
I'm using the Microsoft XML parser. I always get a null value
back for the attribute. However, if I explicitly add the attribute
value to the marked up text, I get back a value:
<protocolVersion dataType="UnsignedByte">1</protocolVersion>
What I want is the attribute to always be defaulted to "UnsignedByte"
without having to put that in the markup text.
The docs I've seen suggest that the above should work. Am I off
base, or am I missing something in the MS XML parser?
