The simplest way I know to deal with URL streams in JavaScript is to create a simple Java applet to do a few things, insert it on a page and call its methods from JavaScript. You still run into security issues that prevent you from accessing domains outside the source of the page, but its a start.

Kudos Jeremie.

I'm working on a way to fool it into taking info directly from a URL.  It's
a kludge, but it should work. I'll post it as soon as it is stable.
