Join DataDirect's Jonathan Robie at the Extreme Markup Language Conference for a talk on XQuery technologies entitled: "XQuery Update Facility: Setting Up the Problem"
Session Abstract: In the real world, data is not read-only. While XQuery provides an excellent model for simple and powerful updates to XML, updates are missing from XQuery 1.0. Several vendors are implementing their own proprietary extensions to provide update, and several update proposals have circulated within the W3C XML Query Working Group and at various conferences. The W3C XML Query Working Group is actively working on updates, publishing a requirements document and discussing various approaches to adding an Update Facility to XQuery. After identifying some of the major questions associated with this work and exploring the problem space and solution space without attempting to predict the answers that the Working Group will find, speakers hope to get feedback from the XML community to bring back into the XQuery Update work.
