andy standleySubject: tab delimetered file with variable length

We want to convert a tab file so that if the field is empty we get the xml tags but if the delimeter (tabs) are not there then we do not want the tags.

If we have \t as a tab then if the file is

\t a \t b \t c \t

we want a and b and c as fields and thus have tags but if

\t a \t b \t \t

we still want a and b and c as fields and thus have tags (so no omit when empty) but if

\t a \t b \t

we want just a and b as fields and thus no c tag

is this possible

thanks
andy

If you use the Custom XML Converters, by default we do not generate tags for empty values. This property is at the field level, and is called "Omit empty tags" and defaults to "when zero or empty".
