Ron BernardSubject: Format Datetime with xslt
Author: Ron Bernard

Hello. We have a table that contains a dateTime value in the following format: Wed Aug 26 15:21:45 CDT 2009.

We would like to convert this to the following format: 08/26/2009 1521. Is there a way to do this with xslt. I've tried the following:

<xsl:template xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
<xsl:variable name="jsximpact">
<xsl:value-of select="{0}"/>
</xsl:variable>
<xsl:value-of select="format-dateTime($jsximpact, '[M01]/[D01]/[Y04] [H][m]')"/>
</xsl:template>

But this does not work. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Ron,
in order to do the conversion you need access to a Java extension function; does your XSLT processor support that?

I just wanted to mention...

I'm using the latest Saxon free-ware parser, 9.0.2 i think and it is giving me dateTime values that are not consistent with the W3C spec.

my pattern is:

format-dateTime($somedatetime, '[M01]/[D01]/[Y0001] [h01]:[m01]:[s01] [PN]')

The issue is that its returning "P.M." or "A.M." instead of AM or PM (without the periods). The W3C spec says it should be without periods. I only bring this up because the A.M. value breaks some convertdate functions; especially CDate() in VB/VBScript.
