daniel weberhoferSubject: how to patch xml files with wrong encoding
Author: daniel weberhofer

Hi,

I have a tool that generates many xml file with wrong xml encoding

<?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8' standalone='no'?>

instead of

<?xml version='1.0' encoding='ISO-8859-1' ?>

As a result the XSL Processor complains when it sees a german umlaut (äöü).

As it is not possible to change the too that generates these faulty files I am looking how to "patch" the xml file.

Stylus Studio allows "patching" from the GUI when I open the xml file - but only one file after another. Because I have to do this many times and each time for about 100 files this is not very efficent.

Is there a way to tell the xsl processor to ignore the wrong encoding?

Is there a stylus studio cli command that would allow me to make bulk changes of xml encoding? Any other ideas?

Thanks and best regards
Daniel

Hi Daniel,
Stylus Studio doesn't offer a command line tool to perform such operation; the only option you have is to see if the XSLT processor you are using has a programmatic interface that allows forcing a specific encoding for an input source (e.g. the SAX interface InputSource allows this).

Hope this helps,
Alberto
