Le Bouquin DavidSubject: Convert ebcdic-cp-us to utf-8
Author: Le Bouquin David

Hi,

I would like to convert an ebcdic-cp-us file to an utf-8 file.

For this, I tried to use "custom XML conversion" with a correct input encoding so I can read my file correctly decoded.
At this step I just want to save it but I didn't manage.
How I do it?

May I have to use another tool?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
David.

ps : I have stylus studio 2008.

You can use Custom XML Conversion for this if your input is
text in EBCDIC and you want output in XML.

If you're just doing a straight file conversion to change
the encoding, than CXC is not the right tool.

If you already have an XML file in another encoding, just load
it and choose Edit > Change Encoding.

I have already try this and it just add at the beginning of the file "<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ebcdic-cp-us"?>".
The rest of the file is not correctly read.

Actually the aim is to use this file for an input pipeline. So I just want to choose the encoding of my input file.
Is it possible?

Thanks for your answers Tony.

Regards,
David.

It sounds like the file doesn't declare its own encoding, or
the declared encoding is inconsistent with the rules in the
spec about 'sniffing' the encoding.

If you are generating code from the pipeline, it would be
possible to change the code that initially opens the file to
do so as a Reader (or TextReader on .net) and set the appropriate
encoding there.

Can you send us a small sample of such a file so we can give more
concrete advice?

You are right Tony.
I checked the file type with an other tool and it doesn't recognize the file like a text file.

Thanks for your answers.

Regards,
David.
