Tim TadeoSubject: Error Connecting to DB2 9.5
Author: Tim Tadeo
Date: 22 Jan 2009 06:02 PM
I am trying to connect to DB2 v9.5 using the Stylus Studio(Build 1291h) and getting the following errror:

[XQuery][DB2 JDBC Driver]Unsupported VM encoding Cp500.

Below is the info for DB2 release level as well as the Java version info:

DB21085I Instance "db2inst2" uses "64" bits and DB2 code release "SQL09053"
with level identifier "06040107".
Informational tokens are "DB2 v9.5.0.3", "s081118", "MI00256", and Fix Pack
"3".
Product is installed at "/opt/ibm/db2/V9.5_01".

java version "1.6.0_11"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_11-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 11.0-b16, mixed mode, sharing)

Below is what I use for the connect string:

//hostname:50002;databaseName=SAMPLE;packageName=JDBCPKG;CreateDefaultPackage=TRUE

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance !

Tim,

The problem seems to be related to the Java virtual machine in your system.

In order to use the DB2 connectivity you need "Support form Multiple Languages" in the JVM.

Sun recently changed the JRE packaging, now there are three types of installer:

- Windows Offline Installation
- Windows Online Installation
- Windows Kernel Installation

The old installer used to have an option for "Support form Multiple Languages" that was off by default

Now it seems like that the new installers are always installing everything, the only thing you can change is the destination folder.

but are they???

I conducted various experiments today and the only one that works consistently (installing Java\jre6\lib\charsets.jar) is the Windows Offline Installation.

Hope this helps
Ivan

Hello Ivan,

Thanks for the help. I re-installed the JAVA SDK in "offline" as you pointed out. I can connect and everything seems fine.

Thanks Again,

Tim T.
