Hello,

I am trying to connect to an iSeries DB via IBM DB2.

This is how I connected for the past couple of years without a problem. Well, actually I had a problem every year, but it was due to upgrading my java console without selecting the additional languages.

This year when I got the same error, I tried to re install java with the additional languages, but that option was no longer available. I did some looking around and tried installing the multi-language Java SE Runtime Environment 6u11. Still didn't work. That's when I started trying to find an alternative method of connecting to my iSeries, which brought me to sequeLink.

But I digress, I'm back to trying to connect via IBM DB2. I'm running Stylus Studio Version 6 Professional Edition. My connection string is:

//BIJOUX:446;locationName=BIJOUX;collectionId=VINCENT;packageName=JDBCPKG

The error message that I am getting is:

java.sql.SQLException: [StylusStudio][DB2 JDBC Driver]Unsupported VM encoding Cp835.

Please Advise, I've been going crazy the last two days trying to figure out how to connect to my DB.

Thank you,

Vincent

Thanks Ivan,

That was my original post from a few years back. I read through it already, that's where I got the link to download the JRE with additional languages. I did that, but I am still getting that error message. I'm not sure what else to do.

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Vincent

The Custom XML Converter has an option to use different encodings,
and the drop-down list is populated from the Java version.

So, if you create a new converter and look at the available encodings,
it will tell if the JVM that Stylus Studio is pointing to has that
encoding. Look for the Cp835 encoding in that list.

Also let us know what the Help->About says about which Java edition
Stylus Studio is attached to.

Knowing this will help us know what to do next to solve your problem.

I did not see an option for Cp835.

Can you verify that Stylus Studio is using JRE 6?
Tools -> Options -> Java Virtual Machine
Help -> About -> Java Virtual Machine

Which Stylus Studio build are you running?

Sorry Vincent,

We are still investigating the problem and we don't' have a solution yet.

Can you confirm that you have the system working in the past and it stopped working after updating your system to the JVM 1.6?

Did anything change on database side?

Thanks!

Ivan,

Thanks for responding, I thought you guys forgot about me!

I can confirm that the system worked fine in the past. I use the SS software once a year in January. The only hiccup that I usually experience is with Java updates; I usually forget to select additional languages during the year, but I would normally just re-install java and select the additional languages option.

On the database side, nothing has changed, with the exception of upgrading our iSeries from V5R2 to V5R4.

Thanks for continuing your investigation on this matter.

Vincent

Vincent,

Unfortunately the data access component bundled with Stylus Studio 6, dated 2004, only supported DB2 V5R1 and V5R2 for iSeries.

The latest Stylus Studio 2009 provides support for DB2 UDB V5R2, V5R3, and V5R4 for iSeries.

Keep in mind that SQL/XML has been replace with XQuery, thefore I suggest the following:

Send your SQL/XML query to stylus-field-report @ progress.com and we will translate it to XQuery for you, then you will download the Stylus Studio 2009 evolution and test it on your system. if everything works well, you can explore the upgrade path.

Hope this helps
