Sam Gardner-DellSubject: Global parameters are not recognised
Author: Sam Gardner-Dell

Hi,

I am having some difficulties getting StylusStudio to supply global parameters correctly when a transform using Saxon-B 9.
The top-level XSL file being run does not define any parameters itself. The parameter definitions are all specified in a separate XSL file, called BaseTemplate. This BaseTemplate is shared by a number of different projects using the xsl:include construct to define the reference.

I have observed that if I leave the <xsl:param/> definitions in the BaseTemplate then StylusStudio does not set these correctly, however if these definitions are moved into the top-level file then there is no problem.

These stylesheets are invoked from our web-application using saxon9 with no problems in supplying parameters.

I am new to StylusStudio but am confident that I have set everything correctly. This all worked when I was using the trial version a month or two back, but now we have the full enterprise edition nothing seems to work. Please help!

Hi Sam,
imported parameters should appear in the scenario dialog; can you send us the XSLT stylesheets, so that we can investigate why this doesn't happen? (if you prefer not to post them in the forum, you can send them to stylus-field-report (at) progress.com)

Thanks,
Alberto

Hi Alberto,

Thanks for your prompt reply.
I am unable to supply the actual XSL (would most likely lose my job), however I have put together a much simpler test which will demonstrate the problem (see attached). Please note that the Project.xsl is the top-level file which should be invoked for the transform.

I would also like to clarify that the parameters list in the scenario dialog does correctly identify all parameters that may be set. The problem is that the values entered into the dialog are not supplied to the transformer correctly.

For your info:
Framework version: Build 1050g
JVM: 1.4.2_14

Thanks,

Sam

Hi Sam,
it turns out that parameters defined inside included stylesheet are not assigned if the 'use Stylus Studio URI resolver' option in the scenario dialog has been unchecked. We are working on a fix, but in the meanwhile you can work around the problem by enabling this option.

Hope this helps,
Alberto
