Author: Austin Henderson

I am trying to make my XSD define an element to be decimal but nillable... can this be done or do I need to declare it as a string and nillable?

Thanks

Hi Austin,
once you create the new element in the XMLSchema editor, go to the property window and set "Type" to
xsd:decimal" and "Nillable" to "True"

Hope this helps,
Alberto

I assume you mean xs:decimal... yes I know HOW to set the option but the decimal type does not permit nillable according to my validation... when I parse my XML doc against the XSD I get this..

The 'hitemp' element is invalid - The value '' is invalid according to its datatype 'http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema:decimal' - The string '' is not a valid Decimal value.

Is there any way other than setting it to a string to permit nillable and pass validation?

Thanks

Have you added the xsi:nil="true" attribute to the element having the empty value? If yes, which validator are you using?

Alberto
