Alan BrownSubject: Can't compile Java
Author: Alan Brown
Date: 04 Oct 2007 01:14 PM
I seem to have a configuration problem that prevents me from being able to compile a Java program from within Stylus Studio; I can however compile outside of SS.

Compile output:
Classpath:"C:\downloads\XML\xml_class_files\xml\ch08\mine";"C:\Program Files\Stylus Studio 2007 XML Enterprise Suite Release 2\bin\XMLConverters.jar";"C:\Program Files\Stylus Studio 2007 XML Enterprise Suite Release 2\bin\saxon8sa.jar"
Compiling...
Untitled5.java
Exception in thread "Thread-0" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/sun/tools/javac/Main

My environment is...
Stylus Studio Enterprise Edition. Release 2, Build 894m.
Options:

JDK Version: 1.5.0_11

Hi Alan,

It seems like that Stylus Studio cannot locate <JDK dir>\lib\tools.jar

Could you post a screenshot of the options under
Tools-> Options -> General -> Java Virtual Machine?

If you click auto-detect do the settings change?

Thanks
Ivan Pedruzzi

Auto-detect changes JRE to 1.6, but doesn't make any difference in results.

In the Java option page could you please pick both 1.5.x for JRE and JDK then re-start Stylus Studio and retry?

Thanks!

Same results after selecting 1.5.0_11 for both.

Could you verify that if tools.jar exists in your system?

c:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_11\lib\tools.jar

Thanks!

After discussing offline we discovered that the registry key "JavaHome" had a bogus value.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Development Kit\1.5]
"JavaHome"="1"

After setting the value to the appropriate folder, Stylus Studio was able to invoke the Java compiler.

Thanks Alan
