Are you installing with "administrator" privileges? If not, can you try if that changes anything?

I'm having a similar problem. The installation hangs when it reaches verify installation stage. I have to force the windows installer to close. It then says installation was successful, but, when I try to open the application, the windows installer kicks in again and hangs. I have admin priviledges and I drop my firewall during installation to no avail.

thanks.

That seems to be a different problem; take a look at this for information about how to fix it:

ouch. ran the installer cleaner and it ended up messing up my Office, ugh! I'll have to reinstall it now.

The process also didn't fix my SS either. It still stalls on "preparing to install". I should add that it there is no "error", it just hangs and doesn't install.

I'd post in the relevant thread but there was no way to reply there.

I am going to do it on an absolutely clean computer. My HD just crashed so I have to re-install everything. I will advise.

OK, a clean machine works great. It might be that the upgrading process is where things are screwing up.

I still can't install this software. I paid for this and it's getting frustrating now.

John,
just to be sure we are tracking the right issue: your installation process did complete and now you are getting a Windows Installer window when you start Stylus Studio that never goes away, right?

If that's the behavior you are seeing, then the strategies described in the FAQ I referenced here are all we can suggest to address the problem; please note that this isssue is NOT caused by Stylus Studio, but by a problem in the installation of one of the components on your machines that is triggered when Stylus Studio tries to initialize the Internet Explorer component.

Have you tried identifying the GUID of the component that is causing this problem, using Event Viewer as suggested in the FAQ?

I think because I had precisely the same problem that it must be something that could be figured out with a fix that users might all be able to use. Maybe someone could log into John's machine with goto meeting and see if they can discover the reason. Anyway just a thought.

As analyzing the problem involves inspecting low level adminstration details of the machine (like Event Viewer logs), we think the best path is that the user himself follows the suggestion described in the FAQ.

The culprit is apparently the application associated to "{3F4EC965-28EF-45C3-B063-04B25D4E9679}" (you can see his name browsing for it under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall).

Using msicuu2 to clean that installation, or uninstalling that application should fix the issue you are experiencing.

I uninstalled the bluetooth adapter and that cleared the way.

I'd like to understand more about that is happening here. If I reinstall my bluetooth it seems that this is going to happen again if I update or whateever.

What is happening here that causes this to happen? From what I've read here my understanding so far is that the "other" program, not yours, is trying to do something. trying to do what? I've never had this problem before.

If you google for similar errors (searching for the text you see displayed in the Windows Installer UI when the hang happens, for example), you will find plenty of discussions about that.

From what we know, the problem is triggered when we try instantiate the Internet Explorer component; at that point, there is some interaction between Internet Explorer and Windows Installer, checking for other installed components. Some application can apparently corrupt the registry information used by Windows Installer, causing the problem you have been experiencing.
