Anthony BatemanSubject: Simple increment of a value
Author: Anthony Bateman

Apologies if somebody thinks this has been answered in other posts; I have looked and cannot see an answer to this (yes I am new at this); the other posts I searced for using the keyword 'increment' seemed too complex.

I have to create an xslt that maps to the following XSD in an <xsd:for-each> loop:

<xsd:element name="E1EDP01" minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="999999">
<xsd:attribute name="SEGMENT" use="required">
</xsd:element>

I need to increment the attribute SEGMENT value by 1 each time the loop is traversed.

Sorry to say but the examples given were not making that much sense to me. Risking the wrath of the developer community, could somebody please enlighten me regarding the most elegant way to solve this problem? I'm wondering if I could use the <xsl:variable> declaration in conjunction with some kind of XPath statement.

Kind Regards,

Tony.

Hi Anthony,
if you are inside a for-each loop, the position() function will tell you the index you are currently working on.

Hope this helps,
Alberto
