Priya AnbulakshmiSubject: How to exit xsl:for each if condition is satisfied in XSL
Author: Priya Anbulakshmi

Hi,

I have one situation which i need to exit from the for loop . How can i do that in xsl?

XML:

<root>
<a>
<b>1</b>
<c>1</c>
</a>

<a>
<b>0</b>
<c>0</c>
</a>

<a>
<b>1</b>
<c>1</c>
</a>
</root>

XSL Snippet:

<xsl:for-each select="root/a">
<xsl:if test="b = 1 and c = 1 ">
X
</xsl:if>
</xsl:for-each>

I want output of "X" alone but i m getting "XX". How to stop the for loop once i got my condition satisfied?

Hi Priya,
XSLT is not a procedural language... you have to work on node sets, like this:

<xsl:for-each select="root/a[b = 1 and c = 1][1]">
X
</xsl:for-each>

Priya,
in this case you don't want to iterate at all; you need either a xsl:if or a xsl:choose on the same XPath expression.
