Andreas StillerSubject: preview automatically starts after every character typed in xquery editor
Author: Andreas Stiller

I try to edit a xquery in the xquery editor, but after every character typed the previewer starts, grabs focus and complains about syntax errors. How can i disable this automatic preview ? I searched all settings panel but did not find it somehow.

There is no such thing as an "automatic preview"... Preview is triggered by F5 (debug), Ctrl+F5 (run, no debug) or menu/toolbar explicit commands...

The behavior you are describing seems to suggest your machine is issuing F5/Ctrl+F5 like keystrokes, without you actually doing anything to trigger them. I'm expecting you see the same behavior using the XSLT editor, for example?

yes, i get the same behaviour in other editors. I dont know what i did, but every keystroke starts the preview. Right now i am testing it on another installation on my laptop and it works fine. The preview starts only on demand. So i should probably re-install ?

I would be really surprised if it was an installation issue. I would suggest to try restarting the machine first; if the problem persists, as funny as it sounds, I would probably try using a different keyboard...

Restarting computer does not help. And other applications (like eclipse) do not see any F5 events. I also resetted all keyboard assignments to be on the safe side. Re-Installing did not help either (build 735f with 1.5.0-11 b03 sun jdk). Do you have any further ideas how to narrow down the problem ?

update: i installed a key-logger and actually see muchs F5s inside my own keystroke sequence, but only inside stylus-studio.

keystroke log for struzzo (typing fg):

<F5><F5><F5><F5><F5><F5><F5><F5><F5><F5>f<F5><F5><F5><F5>g

keystroke log for another editor (typing jjjjjj):

jjjjjj

Hi Andreas,
do the <F5> keys appear in the keylogger even if no key is being pressed, or do they appear only when typing?

Thanks,
Alberto

The F5s appear only when i type something or when the editor window regains focus via a mouse click. Means, when i acknowledge the error popus (usually i type only some garbage for tests) and stop typing the editor remains quiet and does not repeat the preview try

Do you have any sort of keyboard acceleration software installed?

1. There are some programs which will automatically close popups;
one of them could be getting confused.

2. You could have an undiagnosed piece of viral software that thinks
it is acting on something else.

3. The IME or other keyboard handler for non-US keyboard maps
might be improperly installed or configured.

4. You might try to remove the registry keys associated with your
user session of Stylus Studio; if the above doesn't help, we can
point you in the right direction. Perhaps some registry setting
for the user interface was corrupted.

I checked for virus with up-tp-date scanner and found nothing. Anyway, i am in vaction now and have no access to this machine. In two weeks i will bump this thread if the deletion of the Stylusstudio registry tree does not help. This is what you mean with deletion of user session info, right ?

Hi again,

i still have the same problem after deleting the registry keys:

HKCU\Software\Stylus Studio\2007 XML Enterprise Suite

All settings were lost as expected, but still each character or mouse-click starts the preview. And again: other applications do not suffer from this automatic F5 insertion. Is there any other registry tree, i should try to delete ?

Problem solved:

The culprit was a process "TMEPROP.exe". It is part of standard software for this Toshiba laptop. After killing this process, the editor works as expected.

Hi Andreas,
we are happy that you found out the reason of that strange behavior; I did some searching, and here (http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/jive3/thread.jspa?threadID=1313) a Toshiba user says that TMEPROP.EXE version 1.00.41M fixed a similar problem

Hope this helps,
Alberto
