Ice FireSubject: Finding relative path or position of an element
Author: Ice Fire
Date: 12 Mar 2007 09:55 AM
Hi,
Is it possible to get the relative path of all the elements and attributes? or atleast their relative positions from the root?

For eg, if the input xml is:

<entry>

<name attr1="hello1">
<name_first>John </name_first>

<name_middle>B. </name_middle>

<name_last>Smith </name_last>

</name>

<address>

<address_1>100 Evans Ct.</address_1>

<city>Carrboro</city>

<state>NC</state>

<zip>27510</zip>

</address>

<address>

<address_1>100 Evans Ct.</address_1>

<city>Carrboro</city>

<state>NC</state>

<zip>27510</zip>

</address>

</entry>

Output should for address_1 should be:
entry/address[1]/address_1[1]

For position i am trying to get the total relative position. Using position() considers only the absolute position. I wanted to get the position of the element starting from the document root i.e
position of entry=1
position of name=2
position of name_first=3 and so on...i.e unique values for each element

Search the archives for xsllist run by Mulberry
Technologies; there was a thread on this not too
long ago that offered some interesting solutions.
