So what I am asking with the 17 questions is this software; is Stylus a all in one package given the right script and or codes are applied. And have I purchased what I was looking for if I have the right tutor.

This thread became hard to follow and understand because the
messages were long and both parties concerned were posting
simultaneously.

We are exercising poetic license in removing the intermediate
steps, and just posting the final answers in this posting.

----------

Before I begin to answer the questions, please understand this. Stylus
Studio is a very powerful tool. But like all tools, it has specific
uses. It is designed for the professional programmer who works with XML
and has a knowledge of various XML technologies.

As an analogy, my neighbor is a builder - and a very good one. I could
borrow any of his tools, but I could not build a house. Nor does having
one tool, even one very powerful tool, allow him to build an entire
house.

With that as a background analogy, I will try to answer your questions.

> 1) Is the product everything I need to be a API and also

Stylus Studio deployment adapters are the only API we provide. Those
adapters are used for converting various file formats such as EDI and
various line-oriented files, from and to XML. We supply no other API.

> 2)*** sell Domain names, (When I say Sell Domain names, I do not think
> Stylus is ICANN, but what I have asked will the program allow me to
> develop a website that will search , sell , and retrieve domain names
> and conduct a

Stylus Studio could possibly be used to help design such a site. But it
is not sufficient to do so. No single product would be. It could help
in designing the transforms used to display data or communicate between
servers, but since it is not a server it would not include web search
functions, nor would it include libraries or licenses for implementing
an on-line store. That does not specifically involve XML technologies
per se (although an implementation could), therefore it falls outside
the scope of a general purpose XML tool. (BTW, ICANN oversees domain
names, but doesn't itself sell them.)

> 3) Search engine, (What is meant here is will the software allow me to
> develop a website that will retrieve my data that I set up with the
> mapping feature or query.)So example if someone wanted to go to my
> site and type in Stylus will my site look like a search engine by

> SERVER.

Stylus is a development-time tool - not a run-time tool. It can help
you design portions of your web site, but except for the deployment
adapters does not participate in the actual functioning of your site.

> Become a 4) Billing service using EDI or better known as batch billing

Stylus Studio includes tools for transforming EDI to XML and back. How
you use them is up to you. It is assumed that before you attempt to use
EDI, you thoroughly understand EDI. It is quite complex; considerably
more so than it appears at first glance. We do not offer tutoring or
support of EDI; even if we did, it would be very expensive. People make
careers out of dealing with EDI. Also, the enterprise license that you
purchased includes a development license for the adapters. To use them
in production, you would need to purchase runtime licenses. The cost
would depend on the size of the machine upon which you wish to deploy
them.

As Minollo stated, No. Adobe sells that. It is not XML.

We sell hammers; we do not teach people how to use them. We will answer
specific questions regarding the tool, but since we sell a professional
programmer's tool, we make the assumption that the buyer is a
professional programmer.

We do not provide technical support over the telephone.

We do not provide technical support via fax.

We do not provide individualized training on XML technologies, but a
quick Google search should be able to point you to many that will.

All of the documentation for Stylus Studio is available on-line, both as
HTML and as a PDF.

See http://www.stylusstudio.com/docs/ for copies. If you wanted it on
paper, you must print it yourself. We try to save trees by discouraging
the production of paper documentation wherever possible. Most people
only use a fraction of the manual; providing the PDF lets people who
must print make a printout of just the sections they care about.

There is so much you need to know before you start that it is impossible
to answer this intelligently. What platform? What language? What
database? What web server? What search engine? These are
architectural questions that need to be answered before the first line
of code is written, and in order to answer these you've got to
understand the various technologies and their trade-offs.

Sometimes my wife watches Dr. Phil. One of his tag lines, often
related to young people, is "You don't know what you don't know." In
your case, there is so much more that you don't know yet that is far
beyond the scope of what we (or any other single company) offers.

You will need all of the above settled, plus a variety of tools, in
order to design some of the websites you mentioned earlier.

The answer is, it depends. For development, you could use dialup. But
when it comes time to deploy, it depends on your user base. Nobody hear
can answer that for you. And if we could, it would take analysis of
your whole project, and would certainly be expensive and time-consuming
- not because we are greedy, but because it would take serious time and
materials and effort and expertise.

> 9) Will the way I develop stylus on my server effect the speed or
> download time of my data. (Thank you you answered the question) If I

> tips on a manual or CD

I'm sorry, but this question makes no sense. Stylus has nothing to do
with performance at runtime. It can help you write transforms that
perform well, but only if you understand ahead of time how to tune an
application for performance. There are several experts on the xsl-list
mailing list that can help with simple questions, but for serious
performance tuning, that's a different story. You can put performance
monitors on your code (Stylus does include these) for XSLT and XQuery,
but you need representative samples of data first.

> 10) Does Stylus sell any other products, and/or software to edify this
> software? (The question is repeated above) Product list from the
> company not the software

Stylus Studio is a product. DataDirect Technologies is the company.
Stylus Studio is one of many tools you can use to build a website. The
other tools DataDirect sells are infrastructure tools such as ODBC and
JDBC drivers. Whether you need them or not nobody here can tell you.
You would have to tell us.

> 11) Are there written instructions in the disk that I purchased
> **(This is repeated above need a hard copy)

Already answered.

> 12) Do I have tech support with my annual AUP fee, or even with out
> it? (You answered it, so give support) ( you gave me a number I will
> call it Thank you)

AUP is so that you don't have to pay to upgrade Stylus Studio. SSDN
support is free to all Stylus Studio users. "AUP" means Annual Upgrade
Protection. See http://www.stylusstudio.com/buy/renew_aup.html

> 13) Can the software create a browser to tour my visitors through my
> site, (Yes or no and how) edify the how answer you gave me.

No. Internet Explorer is a browser. Firefox and Opera are browsers.
Stylus Studio can be used to write XSLT or XQuery which in turn can
create web pages, or can be used to build the intermediate steps for
transforming data from one format to another.

> 14) Can the software create downloads for my visitors. (You did not
> answer this) yes or no and edify the how please.

No. Stylus Studio is a tool for designing certain classes of program.
What kinds of downloads? Ringtones? Wallpaper? Viruses?

If you are asking can it be used to create an application that can be
used for managing downloads, then possibly, using some XML concepts, it
could be used to create a portion of the solution.

> 15) Does the software come with codes to develop the above? And if
> not who does tutoring. (You tried to answer it there is not tutoring)
> please send a copy of the manual with codes.) tutoring is on line in a
> video is what you wrote.

Some sample code is included with the product. But this is a tool for
the professional programmer. It is assumed that when buying the tool,
one knows how to solve the general problem.

For example, the builder next door can use a regular hammer to drive
nails, or a nailgun, or a screwdriver, or an electric screwdriver, or
various adhesives - all to attach two things together. How does he know
which to use and when? He didn't learn from the label on the hammer.
Nor should you expect to learn how to use a sophisticated programming
tool just from the reference manual that comes with it.

Stylus is an environment for editing and working with XML and
XML-related technologies. If you would take the time to look at the web
site that Minollo pointed you to, you would know that the answer to your
question above is no (PHP), no (PHP5), no (JavaScript) and no (AJAX).
In no place on our website or literature do we claim to help to develop
using any of those non-XML technologies.

> 17) Last question: What is the minimum number of GB needed on my
> server to develop what I have described above? (You did not answer
> this) amount of space needed on my server the function properly

We can only tell you how much space Stylus Studio takes to install to
use as a development tool. There are too many variables for anyone to
answer your GB question based on what you've provided.

But since you didn't like Minollo's answer, I will give you a number.
250 Gigabytes to start, growing by 20% a year.
(My answer is accurate to the same degree as the input data I used to
calculate it.)

> 18) But can Stylus be used to develop my server with the XML, XSL,
> XPATH, XSLT, ( you answered my question thank you )

Yes.

> 19) Also can Stylus be used with my current Microsoft server products
> that are installed or my server. Or is Microsoft, Linux or another
> server software needed to support Stylus on my server.

Minollo said, "Stylus Studio doesn't rely on any specific server, and it
supports a variety of Query and XSLT processing engines, and XML Schema
validation engines."

> ( thank you for your answer ) So Stylus stands alone. Stylus is not
> like other programs I need to install in microsoft operating system or
> another operating system

No, you misunderstood. Stylus Studio is NOT THE WHOLE ANSWER. It is
just a TOOL. It is used to write XSLT or XQuery that runs in another
environment, like Saxon or Xalan or something else, that in turn runs on
some operating system, like Windows or Linux.

> I understand Stylus is development software. But what the questions
> are asking is 20) what can Stylus develop.
> ***CAN IT DEVELOP AN OPERATING SYSTEM***

Not unless you can write one in XSLT.
